Nha Trang proposes to build 390 billion VND intersection to avoid traffic jams

On March 17, Nha Trang City People's Committee surveyed and reported to Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee to propose an investment plan for the Ma Vong roundabout intersection project.

According to the proposed plan of Nha Trang City People's Committee, the project has a two-way railway overpass for routes from Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat, Yersin streets turning left to Le Hong Phong street and vice versa; organizing traffic under the intersection according to a modern roundabout, renovating the current roundabout. On Le Hong Phong street, an internal road system is arranged for vehicles to access the bridge and enter residential areas.
The project is expected to have a total investment of 390 billion VND, of which the construction cost is about 211 billion VND, compensation and site clearance costs are 118 billion VND. The project will build a permanent steel bridge, a different level crossing, a minimum clearance over the railway of 6m, a speed on the bridge of 20km/h, a speed of 40km/h on the road entering the intersection, and a speed of 30km/h on the road under the bridge. Project implementation period is from 2025 - 2030.
After the project is put into operation, vehicles traveling on 23/10, Le Hong Phong, Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat, Yersin streets that want to cross the railway must travel on the overpass. Currently, the internal road of the new urban area Le Hong Phong II is closed to traffic, but after the construction of the overpass at the Ma Vong intersection, this road will be opened for residents to access the overpass and travel in all directions more conveniently. The project also arranges a pedestrian bridge across the railway.
During rush hour, trains running in the Ma Vong area are severely congested.
According to the Nha Trang City People's Committee, the Ma Vong intersection is an extremely complicated area at present. The reason is that the intersection between 23/10 Street and Le Hong Phong Street is very close to the intersection between Le Hong Phong Street and the railway leading to Nha Trang Station and the intersection is also very close to the scenic spot Long Son Pagoda. The distance from the intersection to Long Son Pagoda is about 150m, the intersection between Le Hong Phong Street and the railway is also very close to Nha Trang Station (about 120m).
The current Ma Vong intersection is at the same level as the railway, vehicles from Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat, Yersin pouring in during rush hour are very large, the direction of vehicles turning left to Le Hong Phong Street is very crowded, making it very difficult for vehicles from 23/10 Street to circulate, combined with the fact that there are trains passing through at certain times, making the congestion problem more serious. Although the city has implemented traffic diversions on surrounding roads to reduce the number of vehicles at the intersection, traffic jams still occur frequently and are increasing.
