Da Lat: Keeping the brand "City of a Thousand Flowers"

According to the proposal of the People's Committee of Da Lat City (Lam Dong), the current 16 wards and communes will be arranged into 2 to 4 new administrative units. Regardless of the option chosen, the name "Da Lat" will still be retained.

Specifically, option 1 is divided into 3 wards: Da Lat, Nam Ho (or Xuan Truong) and Cam Ly; option 2 is 4 wards including Da Lat, Cam Ly, Xuan Huong and Nam Ho; and option 3 is to merge into two large wards: Da Lat and Nam Ho (or Xuan Truong).

Currently, Da Lat City has an area of ​​over 391 km² and a population of about 280,000 people. Of which, more than 233,000 people have permanent residence, the rest are temporary workers and students. This city is considered the center of tourism, education and scientific research in the Central Highlands region.

Nha Trang: Planned to split into two wards, still keeping the name Nha Trang

In Khanh Hoa, Nha Trang City – home to more than 434,000 people – is developing a plan to reorganize its administrative units into two wards, one of which will keep the name Nha Trang. It is expected that the Cai River will be the natural boundary dividing these two administrative units.

The general policy of the province is to retain at least one distinctive name for each locality during the reorganization process. Familiar place names such as Ninh Hoa, Cam Ranh, Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, Van Ninh, Cam Lam will be given priority to keep their names when converted into new wards.

Phu Quoc: Building a special economic zone model, keeping the name Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang) currently has 7 communes and 2 wards, with an area of ​​over 580 km² and a population of about 161,000 people. The city's People's Committee is developing two new administrative reorganization plans and both will retain the name Phu Quoc.

Plan 1: Merge 8 communes and wards into a grassroots administrative unit, named "Phu Quoc special economic zone", headquartered at the existing Phu Quoc City People's Committee. Tho Chau island commune will retain its name and will be separated into "Tho Chau special economic zone".

Plan 2: Keep Tho Chau commune as above, but divide the remaining area into two special zones: North Phu Quoc (including the northern communes, Duong Dong ward...) and South Phu Quoc (An Thoi ward and the southern communes). These two special zones will have a total population of more than 150,000 people.

The city leaders said that the above options are built based on criteria of population, area, national defense - security and long-term development planning orientation.

Vung Tau: Keeping the name associated with tourism

At the conference on March 24, Vung Tau City (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) affirmed that it will keep the name "Vung Tau" when separating new wards. The city will prioritize keeping familiar names such as Thang Nhat and Thang Nhi because they have become long-standing tourism brands.

Following Conclusion 127 of the Politburo and the Secretariat on streamlining the apparatus, the Government Party Committee agreed to submit a plan to reduce 50% of provincial-level administrative units and 60-70% of existing commune-level administrative units.

According to Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra, localities must complete the merger of communes and wards before June 30, and put them into operation from July 1. By August 30, provinces and cities must complete the administrative arrangement at the district level to come into operation from September 2025.
