Record number of participating films
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Do Lenh Hung Tu, Chairman of the Vietnam Cinema Association, the 2024 Golden Kite Awards received strong response from all types of films (feature films, documentaries, science films, animations), to long-running TV series, seasonal series and short films, research - theory - film criticism works... The award continues to affirm itself as the film competition with the largest scale and attraction in Vietnam.
In an effort to raise the status of the award, the organizers said that this year, despite many difficulties, the award still focuses on improving the quality of participating works, improving professionalism in organization, increasing interaction with the public, promoting the introduction of works, exchanges with artists, filmmakers, the participation of artists, influential people in social activities, charity, environmental protection, etc.
Vice President of the Vietnam Cinema Association Nguyen Van Tan informed that up to now, there have been 16 feature films registered for the competition, including films with "hundred billion revenue" such as Meeting again sister-in-law, independent films such as Cu li khong bao gio khong khoc, to films ordered by the State such as: Dao, Pho and Piano; Ba gia di bui; Hong Ha nu si; Sao xanh noi bien song; Vang trang tho tu. The television feature film category has 18 works (548 episodes, 22,590 minutes) currently being evaluated and scored by the jury. There are also 41 documentaries, 18 scientific films, 14 animated films, 50 short films and 4 theoretical and critical research works registered for the award. “This is not the final number, because some categories are still accepting registrations, it is expected that there will be more works loved by the public participating...”, Mr. Nguyen Van Tan added.
However, according to initial records, this year's award lacks "blockbusters" at the box office. Meanwhile, the television film category continues to be dominated by the Vietnam Television Film Center (VFC) with 11 films participating, such as: The war without borders; Meeting you on a sunny day; Our family is suddenly happy; Life is still beautiful; People in one house...
Spreading the atmosphere of cinema
The 2024 Golden Kite Award took place in the coastal city of Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province). The main event of the award is the Golden Kite Award announcement and award ceremony taking place on the evening of September 10, at the Do Theater (Nha Trang), with the participation of more than 1,000 delegates, artists, and actors from home and abroad. In addition, the award ceremony will also feature many activities related to cinema such as: a series of talk shows about the works nominated for the award on the fanpage of the Vietnam Cinema Association; an exchange program between artists and audiences; a flag-raising ceremony to welcome the dawn at April 2 Square; the art programs Sea and Film, Passion to Shine taking place at the Do Theater stage...
In particular, one of the most anticipated activities is the seminar on Vietnamese Cinema since the country's reunification: 50 years - a journey... According to the leaders of the Cinema Association, the seminar will be a space full of academic content with presentations, exchanges, and discussions highlighting the achievements of Vietnamese Cinema over the past 50 years; current shortcomings and limitations and propose solutions for the film industry - a key cultural economic sector, to have breakthrough development in the context of a market economy, integration and globalization...
In addition, according to actor, MC Quyen Linh, Vice President of the Vietnam Cinema Association, to spread positive values, towards a national and regional film - tourism festival, this year's award will have active exchange activities between artists, filmmakers with audiences, the community of cinema lovers, not only direct exchanges but also through media platforms and social networks. "Participating in the 2024 award season, in addition to domestic film artists, filmmakers and artists from other fields of performing arts, there will also be international filmmakers from the US, Korea, India, Azerbaijan...", artist Quyen Linh added.
“As one of the most anticipated art events of the year, the 2024 Golden Kite Awards promises to become a festival for artists, filmmakers and the public who love the 7th art nationwide,” Associate Professor, Dr. Do Lenh Hung Tu affirmed.
