Informing reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh - an employee at an airline ticket agency in Hanoi said that this year, people will have a maximum of 4 days off for the September 2nd holiday. Before the new school year officially starts, many families have booked tickets for the above holiday, causing ticket prices to increase dramatically. Up to now, some flights to tourist destinations have sold out even though ticket prices are double the usual days.

Specifically, Ms. Dinh informed that the round-trip flight from Hanoi to Phu Quoc (August 31 - September 3) currently costs from 7.5 million to 8.1 million VND/person; the round-trip flight from Hanoi to Nha Trang, also during the above dates, costs from 4.5 million to 5 million VND/person.

In particular, despite the high ticket prices, during the prime times of August 30-31 and the afternoon of September 3, Vietnam Airlines flights were fully booked.

A survey from the airlines' websites shows that for the Hanoi - Phu Quoc route, the highest ticket prices are on August 30 and 31, with prices ranging from 3.4 - 4 million VND/economy ticket (including taxes and fees). In the opposite direction, September 3 has prices ranging from 2.9 - 4.1 million VND/ticket. Currently, there are very few tickets left on this route.

For the Hanoi - Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) route, the highest ticket prices are on August 30, with prices ranging from 2.638 - 3.8 million VND/ticket. For the return flights on September 2 and 3, ticket prices range from 2.2 to 5.2 million VND/round-trip ticket. There are not many tickets left on this route. Even during the golden hour, the most expensive flight of Vietnam Airlines is over 7 million VND/ticket.

For the Hanoi - Da Nang route, the highest ticket price was on August 31 with prices ranging from 1.9 - 2.562 million VND/ticket. The return flight price was similar on September 3. There are still quite a few tickets left on this route.

According to Ms. Dinh, because the ticket prices during the holiday are too expensive, the only customers buying tickets are well-off family groups, not large groups of companies or businesses like before.

“Airfares of all airlines have increased and increased on most routes. During the holiday, the demand for travel is higher, so ticket prices have doubled, and some routes in the golden hours have sold out. The main reason is that the supply of aircraft is scarce, all flights are full, but in reality, the number of customers booking tickets at agents is not more than the holidays of last year" - Ms. Dinh added.

It is known that on August 13, Vietnam Airlines announced the provision of an additional 500,000 seats, equivalent to 2,500 flights, after many domestic routes reached an occupancy rate of nearly 50%.

Meanwhile, Vietjet announced that it will receive 10 more aircraft to increase its operating capacity to meet demand in the context of scarce aircraft supply.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested Vietnamese airlines to proactively increase transport capacity, coordinate with ground service providers to develop plans to serve flights, especially flights operating at night to increase operating capacity.
