A small room doesn't mean all-white interiors. You can still use dark colors, bold furniture, bold patterns without feeling cramped, as long as you do it right, according to interior experts.

Two experts Jane Rockett and Lucy St George have given advice on this issue on Mailonline.

Avoid red in the bedroom

People still think it's best to use light colors like white, light gray, ... in small spaces. Jane Rockett believes that you can still use dark colors, just pay attention to what color and how?

Avoid red in the bedroom. When painting red in the bedroom, although this is a color that looks sexy, in reality it makes you sleep very little. Red is only suitable for the dining room because it stimulates conversation and debate.

Rockett recommends using dark gemstone colors to add a sense of grandeur and style to smaller spaces or color accents. A vibrant green velvet chair or a chocolate or burgundy bedspread can be used to add contrast and depth.nha-dep-mau-nha-dep-110398

Underestimating the power of light

Letting in as much natural light as possible is key to making a small room feel larger. Rockett suggests removing the curtains and letting the daylight in. Instead, opt for roman blinds or even shutters to control the light but still maintain privacy.

Another tip from Rockett is to use table and floor lamps to layer the light. This will create a nice, warm glow that can be increased or decreased depending on the time of day or your own needs.

Push furniture against the walls

A lot of people want to push all their furniture against the walls to create the illusion of space, but putting it in the middle of the room is actually more effective, says Lucy St George. It creates a sense of openness and movement, which is much more pleasant than having everything crammed into every corner.

Experts recommend choosing furniture with legs, which helps create the impression of a larger room because you can see the space underneath.

Not maximizing storage space

Rockett advises against storing everything in cabinets or sideboards. Freestanding shelves are a great way to display all of your trinkets, as well as add interest and a pop of color to the room.

Arrange seating around the TV

Not only does this send the signal that the TV is always more interesting than friends or family, it also creates “dead space” in the area behind the seating. Instead, try mounting the TV on the wall, so it becomes just a feature of the room.

Sometimes less is more

The bedroom should be a sanctuary, so stick to just a few favorite pieces to create a calm space. It’s important to keep the floors clean, as too much can make the space feel cramped.

Instead of bold, ornate rugs, opt for solid colors or subtle patterns or smaller decorations to maintain a sense of balance and calm.

Incorrect Tiling or Flooring

Laying rectangular tiles or wood flooring across the width of the room will make the space look very low and square.

Lay the flooring along the longest points of the room to maintain the natural flow of the space and emphasize the length of the space.
